India is located in South Asia with Bangladesh, Bhutan, Burma, China, Nepal and Pakistan on its borders. The Arabian Sea is to the west and the Bay of Bengal is to the east. India’s area makes it the world’s seventh largest country. It is divided into three natural regions. The Himalaya Mountains lie along the northern border. The fertile Ganges plain is directly to the south of this, following the Ganges River. The Deccan plateau, in the centre and south of the country, rises from 300 to 900 metres above sea level.
